Improved Cook Stoves for East Africa Limited
| Mission | The aim of the registered CDM/GS Programme of Activities is to help improved cook stove projects that are working with some of the poorest communities to earn the maximum amount of carbon finance from their energy saving activities, in the quickest and cheapest way. ICSEA is not a broker, and will not create a conflict of interest by purchasing projects’ carbon credits, but may support projects with their carbon credit sales contract to buyers. |

| Clean Cooking Activities | ICSEA (Improved Cook Stoves for East Africa) is the CME (Coordinating/Managing Entity) for the registered CDM and GS carbon access PoA ‘umbrella’ covering the six countries of Sub Saharan Africa. Each Supplier Organisation (or group of small manufacturers, distributors, or importers) can join the “open-source†PoA, and each can have multiple CDM Programme Activity projects (CPAs); each one up to the size limit of the CDM’s small-scale cap of 180 GWh of energy savings. |
| Partnership | The ICSEA PoA allows an unlimited number of improved cook stove projects to earn CERs (Certified Emission Reductions – carbon credits) from the greenhouse gas emissions reductions they produce through the replacement of inefficient biomass cook stoves by more efficient ones.
In line with the fair trade corporate philosophy of the Uganda Carbon Bureau Ltd (the developer of ICSEA Ltd), ICSEA Ltd will not act as a broker by purchasing CPAs’ carbon credits, but will support CPAs with their carbon credit sales contracts. The ICSEA PoA is an open-access PoA, meaning that any project developers are free to apply for the inclusion of their respective projects as long as they comply with the CDM eligibility criteria and satisfy the PoA’s due diligence process. To complement the ICSEA PoA, a separate Stove Support Facility (SSF) has been created to help prospective CPAs to reach the required standard for inclusion in the PoA. This facility is outside of the core business of ICSEA Ltd, although it is co-ordinated by ICSEA Ltd. The activities of the SSF are being funded exclusively through grant support from a variety of organisations. Not all potential CPAs will require assistance from the facility, and it is likely that most of its work will be focused on supporting Sub Saharan African project developers. |
