| Clean Cooking Activities | As a young IIT, we believe in socially aware education and in project based learning for our engineering students. We have started a number of initiatives that reflect this belief, including one that resulted in a product that helps women earn substantially more by automating incense stick manufacturing (please see http://www.techpedia.in/award/project-detail/Incense-Stick-Maker?PHPSESSID=83da74fb7e202ffb455a8d9e663da3b0).
Our students are also participating in this year's Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Awards 2012 Challenge, sponsored by India's National Innovation Foundation, and efficient cook stove is one of the key focus areas this year (please see http://nif.org.in/dwn_files/Gandhian Awards 14.5.pdf). In this context, I request your help in identifying a person/ group of persons who will mentor faculty and students and help them focus on specific technical challenges involved in the design and manufacturing of cleaner and more efficient cook stoves. As a full time research faculty, I am also excited about the various research opportunities that this activity brings, apart from the obvious and more important societal impact. |
